We are so happy to sit down and chat with you, Douglas. This card is an exciting amalgamation of the realm of Lorcana and an iconic Disney location. How did you strike the balance between the two?
Douglas: Taking the titular planet from Treasure Planet and changing it slightly was a fun but challenging process. The idea was to take the original source material, turn it into a mountain and place it within the Azurite Sea. I worked closely with the art director and it took several iterations, and even though many concepts were discarded, it was all in service of giving the team ideas. It was a collaborative effort as they gave me great ideas to keep working on.
What other Disney locations would you like to “reinterpret”?
Douglas: Well, speaking of Treasure Planet, I think Crescentia, the moonport, would be lots of fun to paint. Besides that, reinterpreting the hidden city of Atlantis could be a fun challenge; adding some of the Lorcana vibe and lore would be amazing.
