Each set, the Enchanted cards, the rarest type of card in Disney Lorcana, are some of the most discussed and sought after cards by collectors! Each set’s Enchanted cards have a unique art style, so we thought we’d like to kick off Archazia’s Island Enchanted reveals by getting some insight on this set’s style from the Archazia’s Island Art Set Lead, Anna Stosik.

Question: Like we said at the start, each set since Ursula's Return has had distinct art styles based on their respective set.  How would you describe the look and feel of the Enchanted cards for Archazia's Island?

Anna: In this set we are on Archazia's island. Archazia is a Sapphire-Emerald Illumineer, so we made sure the style connects golden ratio geometry of Sapphire with flowy and natural shapes of Emerald. She’s also a nature lover, so we were looking for an appropriate style to illustrate that.

Question: Were there any elements of game play or narrative that played a large part in the art direction for the Enchanted cards?

Anna: The main game design theme of the set are the dual-ink cards, which we have represented with contrast in the card art (we spoke more about dual-ink art development in-depth during our official Discord community art mainstage) and this style that connects geometry and nature, flatness with detail and texture seemed like a good choice to follow contrast as the visual cue.

Question: Is there anything special players should know about the Enchanted cards - easter eggs or other special details that may immerse them deeper into the story?

Anna: The initial inspiration for the style was gouache storybook illustration -in particular, illustrations by Disney Legend Eyvind Earle, who combines geometry with nature in a very special way.

Question: Before we go, anything else you'd like to share about Archazia's Island Enchanted artwork?

Anna: As usual, with Enchanted styles - we were aiming to commission artists who work in similar styles to let them shine. The artists who helped us develop this Disney Lorcana interpretation of gouache artworks were Maria Zafrilla (who illustrated Show Me More!) And Beatrice Blue (who illustrated Tamatoa – Happy as a Clam), these artworks were provided to the rest of our Enchanted Artists as a reference.

We hope you enjoyed some of the insight into this set’s Enchanted card style! Be on the lookout for more Enchanted card reveals over the next few days.
